While I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the MIPI Alliance Board of Directors for the past 16 years, in 2022, I had the distinct honor of accepting the chair role of our Alliance. I am immensely grateful for the support I’ve received from retired chair Joel Huloux, the entire board and the MIPI membership.
Looking back at the year's accomplishments, I am genuinely impressed by the many MIPI members who dedicated their time to advancing our shared goals in mobile and beyond. Not only did working groups deliver another double-digit year of specification adoptions, along with new and updated technical resources, but members from across our ecosystem contributed to MIPI white papers and technical articles; shared their expertise at MIPI DevCon, industry conferences, a MIPI A-PHY forum and an automotive workshop; and participated in MIPI Demo Days, I3C and automotive test activities, and much more. I am especially appreciative to all the members who returned to in-person meetings this year with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
With our expanded initiatives in security, automotive and IoT, collaboration has become even more critical, and working groups have stepped up to advance these efforts through more joint sessions and additional technical liaison activities with allied industry organizations. I have been encouraged to see such a high level of participation among working groups, as well as the broadening of the IoT and Camera interest groups to all members.
I invite you to review the many highlights from the past year, and I am sure you too will be inspired by our hard work and the wealth of technical expertise and valuable resources offered by our Alliance—efforts that have expanded the MIPI ecosystem and contributed to another all-time membership high of 423 companies at the end of 2022. In 2023, we will increase our focus on IoT while continuing to advance mobile and automotive specifications and further increase our industry collaboration.
On behalf of the board of directors, I thank you for your continued support. If you would like to print or share these highlights, a 🔒 PDF version of this message is available on the member website.
Best wishes for a happy 2023,

New Interest Groups Expand Participation
IoT Group Seeks Insights into MIPI Implementations
In 2022, the IoT Interest Group opened to Adopter members to help MIPI gain valuable input into the use of MIPI specifications in IoT, and particularly any needed features, or barriers and challenges that may hinder broader implementation. 🔒 Join the group on the member website (Causeway).
Camera Group To Guide CSI-2 Environmental Analysis
The Marketing Steering Group recently launched the Camera Imaging & Vision Interest Group (CIV IG), also open to all MIPI members, for discussions related to the positioning of MIPI CSI-2 across consumer, commercial and infrastructure applications, which will lead to the development of a comprehensive Camera Imaging and Vision Environmental Analysis. 🔒 Join the group on the member website (Causeway).
Double-Digit Adoptions Span Ecosystem
MIPI adopted a dozen specifications in 2022, with an additional seven entering the adoption process in the final quarter of the year. Working groups also submitted 24 Specification Requirements Proposals (SRPs) to begin development on new specifications. You can learn more about working group progress by viewing the latest 🔒 MIPI Specification Roadmap, released in November.
Collaboration with MIPI's 13 technical liaisons, as well as marketing and event partnerships, advanced efforts to further interoperability and support product developers and manufacturers.
In addition to ongoing liaison activities in multiple working groups, announcements were made last year related to several key collaborations:
ETSI Smart Secure Platform
MIPI and the ETSI Technical Committee Secure Element Technologies (TC SET) announced the adoption of the I3C Interface for SSP (TS 103 818) specification, allowing MIPI I3C Basic to serve as a physical and logical link layer for the ETSI Smart Secure Platform (SSP). I3C Basic provides the ETSI SSP with benefits such as higher data rate, flexible and efficient information exchange, and strong integration of SSP in connected devices. Read more »
