With the highest number of attendees since in-person member meetings resumed post-pandemic, MIPI Alliance Member Meeting #67, held earlier this month in Taipei, Taiwan, welcomed 133 participants from 44 member companies to collaborate in working sessions among 13 MIPI groups and the Board of Directors. In conjunction with the meeting, MIPI held an I3C Plugfest that also saw record participation, and a Demo Day that featured 14 companies and three education sessions, drawing more than a hundred attendees.

Meeting Kicks Off With Updates on Specifications, Key Initiatives

On the Monday of every member meeting, MIPI working group leaders and the board of directors convene for a Technical Steering Group (TSG) session. This year’s TSG agenda included discussions on the specification roadmap, the creation of a library of system models, development of a comprehensive software strategy, a recap of Marketing Steering Group (MSG) activities, an update on IoT Embedded Systems Interest Group (IoT-ES IG) focus areas, and inputs into the Specification Requirements Proposal (SRP) process.

The following day, meeting #67 officially launched with an Opening Plenary that featured presentations from Sanjiv Desai, MIPI Alliance chair; a keynote address from Pingchun (Ben) Lin, senior director, high-speed interface IP development at MediaTek; and updates from Edo Cohen, co-chair of the A-PHY Working Group; and James Goel, chair of the TSG.

After recognizing the many MIPI member companies based in Taiwan and new Contributor members joining the meeting, Sanjiv Desai briefed attendees on the week’s events, recent and upcoming specification releases, and upcoming industry and MIPI education. He also thanked the nearly 40 members who contributed to MIPI education through webinars, technical articles and industry events over the past year.

The keynote address, “Technologies for Mobile and Automotive,” by Ben Lin of MediaTek, focused on the evolution of technology and the impact of AI, particularly for mobile and on the in-vehicle user experience. Continuing on the automotive theme, Edo Cohen shared the latest developments with MIPI A-PHY, including its growing ecosystem, the recent adoption of v2.0 of the specification, the release of a Reference Compliance Test Suite and the next steps in the A-PHY Compliance Program. Closing out the Opening Plenary, James Goel shared specification development timelines from each working group and progress on the initiatives discussed during the previous day’s TSG meeting.
