MIPI Alliance kicked off its first member meeting of the year in Vienna, Austria, 4-8 March, welcoming more than a hundred contributors from 40 member companies. In addition to collaborating within and among working groups to advance new specifications and technical resources, participants at MIPI Alliance Member Meeting #65 also had the opportunity to learn more about MIPI initiatives, upcoming education and the development of the 2024-25 strategic priorities.
A post-meeting report that includes highlights of each group’s activities, updated development timelines and the latest MIPI Specification Roadmap will be distributed to all members next month.
MIPI working group leaders and the board of directors typically convene the first day of the week for a Technical Steering Group (TSG) meeting, and this year’s TSG meeting included sessions dedicated to the technical roadmap, strategic priorities, software strategy, system models and other technical discussions.
The next day's Opening Plenary set the stage for the week ahead with remarks from MIPI Alliance Chair Sanjiv Desai, who welcomed new Contributors and Contributor Trial Membership Program participants, recapped activities to date in 2024, and shared a forecast of upcoming specification releases and other activities already in planning for the year ahead. Additional presentations included an overview of MIPI strategic priorities planning from Executive Director Peter Lefkin, and updates from Michele Scarlatella, lead of the IoT Embedded Systems Interest Group, Tom Kopf of the A-PHY Compliance Program and James Goel, chair of the TSG.

Also at the Opening Plenary, MIPI recognized members who contributed to two recently adopted major specifications. Peter Lefkin presented Specification Awards to Yair Darshan (Valens) in recognition of his contributions to the development of MIPI Power Over A-PHY, and key contributors to MIPI SoundWire Device Class for Audio (SDCA) v1.0: Devon Worrell (Intel), Jon Eklund (Cirrus Logic), Eddie Ashfield and Rob Santoro (MIPI Alliance), Doug Peeler (Dell Inc.), Atiq Rahman (Texas Instruments), Saurin Shah (Microsoft), and Zeek Tsai and Spring Yeh (Realtek Semiconductor).
In addition to the contributors who received plaques at the Opening Plenary, all working group members who participated in the development of these specifications will receive a certificate.
Attendees stepped away from their working group sessions on Wednesday to enjoy dinner and an introduction to Viennese history and culture at the MIPI Social Event. Following drinks and a string quartet performance, members were taken on a private, guided tour of Vienna’s most popular historical site, Schönbrunn Palace. Rounding out the evening were additional quartet and waltz performances as attendees enjoyed dinner and conversation with their colleagues.
